Cassandra Clare: City of Lost Souls: tissue count? → cassandraclare.tumblr.com

cassandraclare:

tobenornottobethatisthequestion asked you:

As there have been no reviews of City of Lost Souls, how bad is City of Lost Souls on a scale of one to ten, do you think? :) “

Hey!

By which I mean how painful is it?”

Oh.

“More than Clockwork Prince? Less?”

You know, I don’t…

Raising Hell: Dear Cassandra Clare, Cassie, Queen of Runes, Blood and Badassery, → weliveandbreathewords.tumblr.com

cassandraclare:

Aw. You guys are so, so, so sweet. I’m so impressed by you. Dealing with hate and lies in the classiest possible way - ignoring it - and focusing on the positive. You’ve made so much beautiful art in the part days, and so many lovely posts. There are obvious yukky downsides to being a public figure online — or at all — you all are the upside.

Thank you.

Thank you.

It’s a thank you for everything you have given your readers by creating the world of the Shadowhunters – the ones hunting in New York, London, Alicante and not to forget, each and every town and city in the world (because this is where your readers live). Your stories continue to make us hold our stomachs during laughing fits, they make us weep in quiet corners of our rooms, or cry out in anger, trying not to destroy the book in the process. But most importantly, they allow us to flee reality for a couple of hours, delving into stories of adventures alongside the characters we came to love so much. Whether it is Jace, Jem, Jessamine and Jordan or Valentine, Sebastian, Mortmain and the Fairy Queen, they all have a place in our hearts, they all matter and play an important part in our reading experience. Everything you give us, every chapter, every page and every line – hell, every word! – will be cherished and analysed until we find its true meaning, its sense for the story as a whole, its impact on future books etc. But I’m sure you know this already. The anticipation of a new book is like a hunt for us, because you give us small glimpses into the plot, never fully revealing what the line or passage means in the book’s context. So we can think of theories, however unlikely they may be, make long posts about possible outcomes, discuss every minor detail of what you gave us, write fanfiction, make graphics and create memes to use in any way you can imagine….

“ask-woolseyscott asked you:
Miss Clare, is there a Woolsey playlist? Or a Woolsey song? Is that something that exists in the dark and ostensibly confetti-covered abyss that is your mind?”

“Werewolves of London”? :)

I’m happy people seem to like Woosley. He has unexpected and (I hope) awesome things to do in Clockwork Princess, so we will learn more about him.

City of Lost Souls snippet: 7 days left

cassandraclare:

Sebastian looked at Jocelyn, his black eyes quiet and narrow. “If you were really a real mother,” he said, “a good mother, you would have known I was alive. There was a man once who said that mothers carry the key of our souls with them all our lives. But you threw mine away.”

“youaretreadingonmydreams asked you:
Hi Cassie =) how would a conversation between Will and Sherlock go?”
—

Well, it depends! BBC Sherlock? Movie Sherlock? Canon Sherlock? They’re all a bit different.

BBC Sherlock: Why, hello. I instantly deduce everything about you, including that secret you’ve been trying so hard to keep all this time.

Will: *jumps into the Thames*

Sherlock: Wait, I had a solution!

Watson: Bit not good.

————-

Movie Sherlock: I would deduce everything about you, but I am really high.

Will: If you are so smart, why have you never deduced that there is an entire Downworld out there, filled with zombies, werewolves, warlocks, and ninjas?

Sherlock: I know about ninjas.

—————-

Canon Sherlock:

Will: I have problems of an angsty nature.

Sherlock, Watson, and Lestrade:

“thatblondeeveryonelaughsat asked you:
There is a really nasty hate blog going on about you right now. And I’ll be damned if I didn’t want to grab a seraph blade and my wand and go all nerd rage on her.”
—

What, only one nasty hate blog? :) (Sorry, had a Jace moment there.)

Well, hate blogs are sad and gross. They are also an annoyance and bore for you guys, because they clog up tumblr tags and make things that should be fun, unfun. They are unfortunately also just an inevitability — there are hate blogs about a ton of authors: Stephenie Meyer and George RR Martin and John Green and Rick Riordan. As my husband says, the internet is 80% porn, 10% inaccurate movie information, and 10% hating people for strange reasons.

I totally understand the wand and seraph blade response, but the best way to deal is to block and ignore, because hate blogs are about attention. And the really really best thing you can do is to counter hate with positivity. Without linking to hate or referencing it, you can blow up the tags with happy and awesome things — this is an exciting time anyway with a new book out in just over a week and movie casting going on right now — so making art and manips, making even a one-line happy post, making hug .gifs and funny drawings, all of that fills up the tags with happy stuff and drowns out the nasty. Even just making posts about how much you love books and reading and writing and characters in general, is a way to take the negative stuff and flip it into something good.

In fact, I’ll take my own advice and start posting snippets from City of Lost Souls starting today, instead of Tuesday, with one a day until the book release. Which will hopefully be a thing that adds fun and happy to the universe, even if in a little way. :)

[Also, since I did get an ask or two about this, um, no, no one has ever sued me. Not ever. In my whole life. About anything. Ever. Really, really, really not. Never happened. Not something you should worry about.]

And now: positivity!

City of Lost Souls Snippet: 8 days left

cassandraclare:

Alec followed the line of Magnus’ gesture and saw a small silver box perched on the opposite side of the big wooden table. He reached over and picked it up. It was like a miniature metal chest set on small feet, with a curved top and the initials WS picked out in diamonds across the top.

W, he thought. Will?
